ALGIERS, ALGERIE — Air Algérie, the national airline of Algeria, has placed an order with Boeing for eight B737-9 MAX aircraft, set to be delivered starting in 2027, as confirmed on May 17, 2023.

The Algerian flag carrier declared in an official announcement on its Linkedin page in April 2023, its plans to purchase 15 brand new aircraft to enhance its fleet. The order encompasses eight Boeing narrow-body aircraft, along with five Airbus A330-900 and two A350-1000 wide-body aircraft.

This acquisition of 15 aircraft aligns with Air Algérie's broader strategy for fleet renewal and growth.

In April 2023, the airline also issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking to dry lease 10 aircraft—comprising of four Airbus A330-200/300s, two A330-900s, two Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 737-9 MAX—for a five-year period. As these leased aircraft become available, they are slated for short-term induction into the fleet.

At present, Air Algérie operates a fleet of 56 aircraft, including eight A330-200s, 32 Boeing 737s (encompassing several models, including five of the relatively uncommon B737–600), 15 ATR-72 turboprops, and a single L100, the civilian version of the well-known Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft.

With a strategic growth plan in place, Air Algérie is focused on significantly expanding its routes within Africa and Asia.
