TOKYO, JAPANJapanese low-cost operator Jetstar Japan will start dedicated cargo operations in early 2024 after a partnership agreement between JAL Group and Japanese logistics company Yamato Group.

According to the agreement terms, Jetstar Japan will operate three Airbus A321-200(P2F)s from Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita to Sapporo Chitose, Kitakyushu, and Okinawa Naha from April 2024.

"We see this freighter operation as an opportunity to realize further growth in the cargo business by utilizing the assets and know-how of both companies and contributing to the solution of social issues such as the problems of truck transportation," Yamato Group said in a joint statement.

Yamato Transport will be responsible for sourcing the aircraft since the JAL subsidiary Jetstar is the only Airbus A320 Family aircraft operator in the JAL Group.

With this progress, JAL Group is returning to the cargo business that it had left in 2010 after phasing out its remaining three Boeing 767 and ten Boeing 747 freighters.
