DUBAI — flydubai, the prominent budget airline based in Dubai, has formalized a wet lease agreement with Smartwings, a charter operator headquartered in Prague. This deal, spanning from 17 October 2023 to 16 April 2024, entails the lease of four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

This arrangement under the Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) model is set to bolster flydubai’s existing fleet, which comprises 79 Boeing 737 aircraft. With the inclusion of these four leased aircraft, the airline intends to augment its seating capacity, thus efficiently meeting the surged travel demands during peak seasons.

At present, flydubai's aircraft lineup is dominated by a single-fleet type of Boeing 737s, breaking down into 30 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s, 46 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and three Boeing 737 MAX 9s.

The newly-leased aircraft, furnished exclusively with Economy Class seating, will be operational on specific routes within the flydubai network. The cities slated for these services encompass Chattogram, Colombo, Dhaka, Karachi, and Muscat.

In a move to maintain transparency and ensure customer satisfaction, flydubai has committed to notifying passengers who have reservations on Smartwings-operated flights well in advance of their scheduled travel.
