DUBAI — An unforeseen incident at Dubai International Airport caused a stir when a bear broke free from its crate in the cargo hold of an Iraqi Airlines plane. This unexpected escape led to an hour-long delay as the aircraft was preparing to set off for Baghdad.

Footage from the scene highlighted the significant black bear being cautiously maneuvered through the plane's open cargo door.

The airline's team, in coordination with experts and authorities from the United Arab Emirates, swiftly intervened, sedating the bear and ensuring its safe removal from the plane's vicinity. Passengers onboard were requested to alight from the aircraft during this process to ensure their safety.

Iraqi Airlines was quick to distance itself from accountability regarding the incident. In a statement, the airline emphasized its adherence to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) approved guidelines and legal procedures concerning the transportation of wildlife. They firmly stated that the bear's escape wasn't due to any oversight on their part.

In the wake of the incident, the country's leadership has taken note. Iraq's Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, has mandated a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances that allowed for such an event to transpire.

Moreover, there was a rectification regarding the initial details of the journey. Initially, it was conveyed that the bear was en route from Baghdad to Dubai. However, Iraqi Airlines later confirmed that the actual direction was from Dubai to Baghdad.
