Viva Aerobus signs MoU for 90 Airbus A321neos, accelerating domestic and international growth.

Mexican budget airline Viva Aerobus has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 90 Airbus A321neo aircraft. This pledge expands the airline's Airbus A320 family order book to a robust 170 units.

The A321neo, the most sizeable aircraft in Airbus' A320neo family, boasts enhanced performance and range. Equipped with new-age engines and aerodynamic Sharklets, the aircraft offers a significant reduction in noise by 50 percent and an improvement in fuel efficiency of over 20 percent when compared to its predecessor single-aisle models.

Viva Aerobus has been resolute in its reliance on the A320 family for fleet revitalization. The airline, back in 2013, ordered 52 A320 family aircraft, marking the most substantial Airbus aircraft order by a single Mexican airline at that time. Subsequently, in 2018, Viva Aerobus added 25 A321neo aircraft to its order. As it stands, Viva Aerobus operates 74 A320 family aircraft.

Airbus has made notable strides in the Latin American and Caribbean markets, selling more than 1,150 aircraft in the region. Over 750 of these aircraft are currently in operation, with an additional 500 queued in the order backlog. This translates to Airbus holding nearly 60% market share of in-service passenger aircraft in the region. Since 1994, Airbus has clinched a remarkable 75% of net orders in these markets.
