ROME, ITALY — ITA Airways, Italy's flagship airline, celebrated the arrival of its first A330-900 during a ceremony in Toulouse.

This aircraft, leased from the Air Lease Corporation, is set to join the ITA Airways fleet in June, expanding its long-haul routes and introducing new intercontinental destinations.

ITA Airways' decision to integrate the A330neo into its fleet marks the addition of the newest generation of Airbus aircraft to its line-up. With an existing fleet of 68 Airbus aircraft, including 4 A220s, 50 from the A320 Family, 8 A330-200s, and 6 A350-900s, the A330neos will help ITA Airways strengthen its commitment to being an all-Airbus operator and attain new levels of efficiency and versatility.

The integration of the environmentally efficient A330neo aligns with ITA Airways' goal of modernizing its fleet to achieve sustainability targets. The delivery flight will be fueled by a 16% blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), demonstrating the airline's commitment to this endeavor.

The A330neo boasts superior operational economics and a state-of-the-art Airspace cabin. The cabin features additional passenger space, an updated lighting system, cutting-edge in-flight entertainment systems, and comprehensive connectivity throughout the cabin.

ITA Airways' A330neo, christened Gelindo Bordin in honor of the Italian Olympic marathon champion, will showcase a three-class cabin layout designed by renowned designer Walter De Silva. The layout includes 30 full lie-flat bed business class seats, 24 premium seats, and 237 latest-generation economy class seats, with a designated comfort economy section containing 36 seats. All seats will provide on-demand video and audio content, full WiFi connectivity, and adaptable mood lighting.

The A330neo, an updated version of the highly regarded A330 widebody, includes state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, new wings, and a suite of aerodynamic innovations. These features allow the aircraft to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 25%. The A330-900 has a non-stop flight capacity of 7,200 nm / 13,334 km.

As of the end of April, the A330 Family had amassed over 1,775 firm orders, with 289 of these being A330neos from 25 customers. One hundred A330neos have been delivered worldwide to date.
