QUITO, EQUATOREquair, which was founded in October 2020 as EquinoxAir, commenced scheduled flight operations early on Monday, January 10, after securing its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Ecuadorian civil aviation authority last week.

On November 16, 2021, the company was officially presented and the Equair brand was revealed in an event that took place in Centro de Convenciones Bicentenario, Quito.

Equair had initially planned to complete its certification and launch in late December 2021 with its two Boeing 737-700s. The first B737-700 jet joined Equair's fleet on December 4, 2021. The airline currently conducts scheduled flights from Quito International Airport to Guayaquil Islands as well as Baltra Island and San Cristóbal in the Galapagos Islands.

The airline competes on these routes with the Ecuadorian regional subsidiaries of Avianca and LATAM, as well as Aeroregional.

Equair's Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) allows it to operate on international routes. However, the startup carrier did not reveal yet any plans for it.
