GENEVA, SWITZERLANDAirplanes are increasingly becoming the must-have assets for big logistics companies transporting goods in containers via ships, trains, and trucks. Many of them are making more money than Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google.

The Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has tied up with Germany’s Aviation giant Lufthansa Group in a bid to acquire the majority shares of Italia's new flag carrier ITA Airways.

MSC said yesterday that its interest in ITA originated from the opportunity of expanding the company's business both in the air cargo and the passenger sector.

During container shipping’s greatest ever boom of the past year, other liner giants such as CMA CGM and Maersk have invested in airplanes.

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC) is a Swiss-Italian international shipping line. It has been the largest container shipping line since late 2021, after overtaking fellow 2M Alliance member Maersk. The company operates in all major ports of the world.
