FRANKFURT, GERMANYEuropean regulatory body has formally approved 149 passengers for Airbus A220-300 after an exit slide modification over the wing.

The A220-300 is currently allowed to offer 145 seats. After EASA's approval, Air France is planning to introduce its first A220-300 with a layout of 148 seats, which will join the airline's fleet in September.

The introduction of an over-performing Type III exit, with a dual-lane overwing slide replacing the single-lane slide, enables the carriage of additional passengers, says the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

Similar exit slide modifications have also enabled the European planemaker to add a few extra seats to its A320neo family jets.
