MALMÖMalmö-based Swedish cargo operator West Atlantic, which is specialized in airmail and express cargo transportation, has taken delivery of its first ATR-72F from the Spanish leasing company LUSAT.

The aircraft, MSN 147 is modified to a Large Cargo Door (LCD) containerized configuration and will be operated on behalf of a major Integrated Express provider within the UK with a second aircraft planned to join during early Q2 2021.

The aircraft will provide additional capacity to West Atlantic’s existing fleet as the group embarks upon a fleet renewal program to replace its long-serving BAe ATP-F fleet. The ATR-72F carries up to 8.2 tonnes of cargo with 75m3 of bulk capacity or 7.5 tonnes of containerized cargo in 5 ABU type ULDs. With 50+ years of operating experience and detailed knowledge of the requirements of the express package and mail industries, West Atlantic is a proven supplier of custom-made capacity solutions throughout the EMEA region.

“We welcome the addition of the ATR-72 to our fleet stated West Atlantic CEO, Lars Jordahn, the aircraft is an excellent platform to replace our well-proven ATP fleet as we continue to seek operating and maintenance synergy with sister company Swiftair, Spain.”
