TOULOUSEOn December 3, the Franco-Italian turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR announced that it secures type certification from the European regulatory body EASA for its newly developed regional freighter ATR 72-600F.

The aircraft made its first flight in September 2020 and has been tested by the company and EASA officials since then. With the EASA approval, the turboprop freighter is ready to enter the service.

The manufacturer has so far registered 30 firm orders from cargo companies, including FedEx Express. The ATR 72-600F is the first ATR aircraft to be built as a freighter from scratch.

The first ATR72-600F with registration F-WWEX will be delivered to ASL Airlines and will operate on behalf of FedEx.

According to planemaker, the ATR 72-600F has a maximum structural payload of 8.9 tonnes (19,600 lbs) and a cargo volume space of 75.5 cubic meters (2,666 cubic feet), which seems enough to provide the capacity for smaller regional deliveries.#
