LOT Polish launched Prague to Ostrava on 11 November, thereby beginning domestic service within the Czech Republic.
Operating five-weekly, the 280-kilometer route variously initially uses 78-seat Dash-8-400s before switching to 76-seat Embraer 170s.
This is the first time since January 2019 that Prague has been connected by air to the country’s third-largest city. It was last operated by Czech Airlines for many years.
In 2018, the last full year of operation, Czech Airlines had 47,278 seats on the airport-pair, OAG data indicates. It offered up to 11 weekly flights, although it was typically between six and eight, all by either ATR-42s or -72s.
Vaclav Rehor, Prague Airport’s Charman, said: “Alongside the strengthening of LOT Polish Airlines presence at Prague Airport, which we believe to continue next year, the new air connection between Prague and Ostrava will mark the re-launch of domestic passenger air transport. The move will primarily benefit passengers, who thus gain another transport option for their journeys between the more distant regions of the Czech Republic,”
