SAO PAULO, BRAZIL - As the airline industry suffers due to the lack of demand for air travel, many airlines are focused on cargo business to maximize their revenues amidst the global crisis.

One of these airlines is Brazil's third-largest airline operator Azul Linhas AĆ©reas. The carrier converted one of its Embraer E195s to the freighter to transport cargo within the country. Azul had already converted some of its ATR 72-600s for the same purpose.

Azul's Embraer E195 is the first of its kind as a freighter. There are no programs of full-cargo conversion of the Embraer's E-Jet series, nor is the aircraft sold by the Brazilian manufacturer in a full-cargo configuration.

The aircraft will only be able to carry small parcels of cargo and will be converted back into the passenger configuration if needed.

The aircraft selected for freighter conversion is the Embraer E190 with registration PR-AYO that has been operated by Azul since December 20.
