Renk, South Sudan - An Antonov AN-26 freighter turboprop skidded off the runway at the Renk Airport in South Sudan, which is located far north in the Upper Nile State.

According to the local media, the incident happened on June 5 during landing. The pilots lost control after touchdown and the aircraft went off the runway.

“The aircraft skidded off the runway because it had a tire burst on landing due to the poor quality of the runway.” the pilot said.

The plane was coming from Juba. None of the crew members on board were hurt.

For his part, Renk Police Commissioner Gen. Manyok Jurkuch confirmed a cargo plane belonging to South Sudan Supreme Airlines, one of the few airlines in the country, lost control while landing at the Renk airstrip.
Several pilots have recently complained about the poor quality of the runway.
