Minneapolis, Minnesota, US - The American ultra-low-cost airline operator Sun Country Airlines has begun cargo operations for e-commerce giant Amazon.

The Boeing 737-800F with registration N547RL (MSN 32348), an 18.8-year-old ex-Pegasus Airlines converted freighter. The aircraft operated its first freight flight as SY3004 from Tampa International to Cincinnati International.

Sun Country Airlines, thus far a low-cost leisure specialist with one Boeing 737-700 and thirty Boeing 737-800s, is planning to take a total of ten Boeing 737-800Fs and operate them on behalf of Amazon. The cargo division is expected to contribute around 20% of the carrier's revenues when it is in full swing.

A further two Boeing 737-800s for Sun Country Airlines are undergoing conversion and testing at Everett. N542RL (MSN 32579) is an ex-Jet Airways unit, while N545RL (MSN 32601) was previously operated by Urumqi Air. Sun Country's first three Boeing 737-800Fs are dry-leased from GECAS.

So far, Amazon's US-based narrowbody freighter fleet has been limited to five Boeing 737-800Fs all operated by Southern Air.
