Toulouse, France - Airbus has canceled plans to add a new production line at the Toulouse factory for the assembly of A321neo jets due to the lack of demand amidst the virus outbreak.

The move marks the downturn of the last 8 years of production growth for the European planemaker's best-selling narrow-body jets.

Airbus had announced plans for an additional A321neo assembly line in Toulouse earlier this year to meet record demand for the aircraft from customers all around the world. The manufacturer had a hard time keeping up the delivery schedule from its Hamburg plant.

According to the company, the plan is still on the table, but it lost its priority since Airbus was forced to cut one-third of its single-aisle jet production.

“Our plans for an A321 line in Toulouse are paused, on hold. When we see rates going up again, we will reconnect to the plans,”

an Airbus spokesman told Reuters news agency.
